How to install a Website Template

Updated 2 min read

Element UI website templates can be installed in minutes using Elementor’s built-in website import tool. This guide walks through everything, from a couple of quick checks beforehand to getting the finished template live on the site.

Before you start

A few small checks make the install go smoothly.

Update Elementor to the latest version. Templates are built and tested on the current version of Elementor. Go to Plugins in the WordPress dashboard, find Elementor, and update it if there’s an update available.

Update the Hello theme. Go to Appearance, then Themes, and update Hello Elementor if there’s an update available.

Turn off default page titles in the theme settings. Hello theme by Elementor shows page titles by default, which is not a good look. To turn them off, go to WP Admin > Hello Theme Settings, and open the Structure and Layout tab. Toggle Hide page title on.

Make sure Flexbox Containers are active. All Element UI templates are built with Flexbox Containers, which is Elementor’s modern layout system. Go to Elementor > Settings > Features and check that Flexbox Container is set to Active. If it isn’t, activate it and save.

That’s the setup. From here the install itself is straightforward.

Installing the template

Step 1. Open the website templates tool. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Elementor > Tools > Website Templates.

Step 2. Start the import. Click Apply a website template, then choose Upload .zip file.

Step 3. Upload the file. Select the .zip file you downloaded from the template’s page and upload it. Elementor will import all the pages, templates, and settings from the file.

Step 4. Done. Once the import finishes, the full template is live on the site, ready to customize.

What to do next

Open any page in Elementor to start editing. The content can all be changed directly in the editor. For brand-wide changes like updating the colors or fonts, use Elementor’s Site Settings.
